He Has Risen (HW14)

'Holy Week'

He Has Risen

Luke 24:6-7  He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ”

Early on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other women were told by 2 angels that Jesus had risen. They reported this to the 11 Apostles. Immediately Peter and John ran to the tomb and found it empty.

After the disciples left the tomb, Mary Magdalene stayed behind and wept. She was privileged to be the first to see our risen Lord Jesus.

Appeared to Disciples

John 20:19-22. Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit."

On the same day (the first day of the week), Jesus appeared to His disciples and gave them the Holy Spirit as the seal of redemption making them to become the first born again believers (Christians).

Expect Jesus be King

Luke 24:15-16, 21  So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him... But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel.

The Jews were expecting Jesus to come as their King to deliver them from the Roman rule. His disciples could not believe that He had risen even though He had told them many times that on the third day He would rise from the dead.

On their way from Jerusalem they met our risen Lord Jesus but they could not recognize Him.

Luke 24:22-23  Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. Yes, and certain women of our company, who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us. When they did not find His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive.

Breaking Bread on Resurrection Day

Luke 24:29-31  But they constrained Him, saying, “Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.” And He went in to stay with them. Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.

Our Lord Jesus broke bread with His 2 disciples on the Day of His resurrection (first day of the week or Sunday) to institute the New Covenant of the blood of Jesus.

ChristIans are free to worship the Lord and break Bread daily or on any day of the week.

I believe that our risen Lord Jesus broke bread with His disciples on the first day of the week (Sunday) to institute the day of the Lord (Sunday) for Christians to worship Him in unity.

Apostles Worship on Sunday

Acts 20:7  Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight

The Apostles had kept Sunday as the day for Christians to worship and break bread together in unity.

Earliest Heresies

Act 20:29-30 For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.

   The two most destructive heresies:-

1. Denial of the Triune Godhead or Trinity

2. Partially Keeping the Law including commandments, feasts, sacrifices and Jewish traditions.

Unless, these heretics and Judaizers repent, Hades awaits them for they have fallen from the grace of Jesus.
